![]() ![]() At the end of World War II, Jerome, Ralph and Tommy Hagood returned from their service in the US Navy to the small city where they had grown up. Their dad had come to Orlando in 1931 to work for what is now The Orlando Sentinel. The family had fallen in love with the city, the lakes and ample opportunities for the Hagood boys to launch into their lifelong love affair with boating and boat racing. Ralph began his hydroplane racing as a youngster of twelve and as their talent grew in building faster and faster engines the team of Hagoods became well known and developed many admirers and friends. The fact that they competed with older and better-equipped owners and drivers never stopped them. The atmosphere of hydroplane racing pervaded their lives and was supported by the dedication of their dad and mom. Post-war Orlando, like every other city in America, was struggling to regroup after the wartime years. The Hagood Brothers were ready to begin their business, and literally built the business from the ground up, starting with the laying of the blocks, but more importantly the building of friendships and establishing the reputation of service to their customers. Tommy Hagood’s name became synonymous with speed and Tommy captured both state and national championships in multiple hydroplane classes. Through racing Mercury engines, Tommy formed a close personal relationship with Karl Keikaver who was the founder of Mercury Outboards. Hagood Brothers worked with the research and development branch of Mercury engines and kept Mercury at the pinnacle of racing and performance. Michael Hagood, Tommy's son now operates Hagood Brothers Marine. Michael and his brother Tom continued to race and win many D and C class hydro events in Central Florida. These classes were the fastest events, reaching speeds in excess of 80 Miles per hour in an 11' foot wooden hydroplane boat. Michael and Tom built, raced, and won many events for Hagood Brothers Marine. Michael, who along with his capable staff, also carries on the tradition of service and attention to the customer; his knowledge of how to get the best performance out of a boat all stems from racing hydroplanes. So, if it's Racing, Pleasure, or off-shore, Hagood Brothers Marine is the right place to be.
Your quest for getting the best performance out of your boat has lead you here. Welcome to Hagood Brothers Marine. We look forward to you being our customer.
